Humility in Speech Will Improve Your Relationships and Communication at Every Level

John 12:49 (NLT)

“I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it.”

Jesus, our Master, was intentional about His words. He knew when to speak, what to say, how to say it, and when silence was wiser than argument. If we are going to grow in relationships, leadership, ministry, business, family life, and communication, we must learn from the Master.

Humility Will Help Your Communication

Sometimes the greatest problem in communication is not vocabulary. It is pride. Pride wants to prove a point, win every argument, have the last word, and speak before listening. But humility listens. Humility learns. Humility thinks before speaking. Humility can say, “I may have misunderstood,” “I am sorry,” “Please explain,” “Thank you for correcting me,” and “I could have said that better.” That kind of humility can save marriages, friendships, business partnerships, ministry relationships, and leadership connections.

How You Say It Matters

You can say something true in the wrong spirit. You can have the right information but the wrong tone. Communication requires truth, wisdom, grace, timing, tone, humility, and discernment. The question is not only, “Did I say what was right?” but also, “Did I say it in the right way?”

Grace on Your Lips

Psalm 45:2 says, “…grace is poured into thy lips…” May your words carry wisdom, kindness, clarity, healing, authority without arrogance, and conviction without unnecessary harshness. May your words open doors instead of closing them. YOU WILL TALK WELL.

Today’s Faith Action

Before one important conversation today, pause and pray: “Holy Spirit, teach me what to say, how to say it, and when to say it.” Listen first. Slow down. Refuse pride. Speak clearly. Speak graciously.

Prayer & Prophetic Declaration

Father, in the mighty Name of Jesus, teach us to learn from the Master. Deliver us from pride in our communication. Give us humble hearts, listening ears, wisdom and discernment. Help us to know when to speak, what to say, and how to say it. Grace is poured upon your lips in Jesus’ Name. You will speak with wisdom. You will speak with grace. You will listen with humility. Your words will build and not destroy. Your relationships will improve. YOU WILL TALK WELL, in Jesus’ mighty Name. Amen and Amen!
